Kia ora and Welcome to Term 3

Kia ora and Welcome to Term 3

We trust you all had an enjoyable and relaxing break and are all ready for another exciting term at Discovery 1.

There are a number of changes to be noted this term:

HB 5, 6 and 7 will be based at the YMCA on Tuesdays.

We have had a number of new entrants recently enrolled at Discovery 1 such that HB 1 was moving to have a larger number of children than is desirable.

The MoE has approved an additional 5 hours a week of LA funding and the Board has contributed additional funds, such that we can employ a partime LA (Nadine) and create a new Homebase, HB 8. This HB will operate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9.30 to 12.40pm. All new NE children to D1 will be allocated to HB 8 as well as 5 new children who started in HB 1 late last term. Nadine will be responsible for these children in all aspects as Homebase LA. This will include IEM’s, welfare and reporting with particular emphasis on literacy and numeracy.

As a school, it is important that we continue to recruit new students to build back to our previous roll levels and to maintain D1’s viability as a school. We are also loosing 28 year 8 students at the end of the year.

HB 3 and 4: These two HB’s will have a new Release LA, Annie, who will replace Nadine in that role.

The Police will be at D1 in weeks 2 and 3 running a Keeping Ourselves Safe programme.

ERO are due in week 7. Details to follow in future newsletters.

Steve on leave: Steve is away from 16 August until September, 12 at the Canoe Polo championships.

New Families: We would also like to welcome 7 new families to D1 and trust that they have a very positive experience at D1.

Welcome to Maximilien Muir, and Maia Robins to HB 2, Claude Southwick, Grace Schischka and Joshua Davies to HB 4, James Lee and Mathilde Southwick to HB 6, Silke Konnerth to HB 7 and Isaac Churchill and Hinerau Ataria to HB 8!!!

Help in Office: There is a reasonable amount of catch up filing to be done in the Office. If you have a spare hour or so and would like to help could you please see Elmarie.

Lost Property: This will be disposed of at the end of next week, so please check carefully for any items that you maybe missing.

Written Report Feedback: Last term D1 sent home a written report on your child’s achievements as we are required to do so by law. This report was a trial and we would value your constructive feedback so that we may improve the final report in term 4. Thank you for your assistance. Please feel free to discuss with LA’s or myself. Please take the time to complete the return slip on the next page re the written reports. Thanks.

Tony
