Kia ora and welcome to Week 9. One week to go for this Term.

Kia ora and welcome to Week 9. One week to go for this Term.

We all trust that it has been a positive term for all involved with Discovery 1.

"If intellectual and aesthetic pursuits are not felt to be just as important avenues by which an individual can bring credit to his school and win the regard of his fellows as are certain sports, then the scales are weighted against the possibility of a gifted child achieving social adjustment through academic achievement." George Parkyn

Cybersafety Meeting: A reminder that this  re-arranged meeting is to be held this Thursday, June 21 in Steve’s homebase. All parents and caregivers are welcome. Come along to hear the Police and expert’s advise on ways to keep your children safe in this Internet age.

IEM’s: A reminder of this very important part of Discovery 1 learning. These are to be held next week and bookings can be made on https://sites.google.com/site/iems2010/online at anytime. It is really important that you attend the IEM’s to set your child up for their education in Term 3.

So we can staff the school on IEM days, could you please return the slip below to indicate if your child will be at school next Thursday and/or Friday. Thank you.

School closure: Last week we had to close the school for two days due to snow. A reminder you that in the event of school closures, please listen to Newstalk ZB, look on Facebook or on the School website.Thank you.

Matariki: Matariki is this Friday, 22 June at school from 4:00pm- 7:00pm. We hope to see as many people as possible. It's a great chance for families to catch-up, meet those new to our community and share ideas and thoughts about our children's education.

Workshops will run from 4:00pm - 5:45pm and everyone (including parents and other siblings) are encouraged to get involved, learn some new skills and make some fabulous creations to take home. Workshops are all free and most are drop in. Please read through this newsletter for more detailed information about the workshops.

Dinner will be from 6:00pm.

Please bring some kai to share.

If you know you are coming could you please RSVP to the office or on the facebook page.  You are welcome to come if you haven't RSVP'd but having an idea of numbers will help us ensure we have enough materials.

Things needed for workshops:

If anyone has glass jars, plastic shopping bags and/or wool please could they bring them in throughout the week (I'll put a box in the shared space under the microwave).

Also, if anyone has knowledge of flax weaving Kath would love some help. Please contact her directly: strobe73@paradise.net.nz

Does anyone have some icing piping kits (with nozzles) that Suze could borrow for the biscuit icing.  Please contact her directly: soosin@clear.net.nz

Susie’s research Published: Our clever LA Susie has been carrying out a research project and this has been published in SET Magazine. This can be seen on our website under ‘Useful documents’ or go to: http://www.discovery1.school.nz/assets/files/useful/Susie%20Greenslade,%20case%20study.pdf
