Kia ora and welcome to the second week of term 3.
BOARD BY-ELECTION: Nominations open Wednesday, 1 August. Please do consider this seriously as the school needs committed parents for the Board to guide Discovery 1 into the future especially over the next 2 years or so.
The next 2 weeks will be a very eventful and exciting time in the life of Discovery 1 School, including:
- Community day with new Director interviews during the weekend
- Release of the 100 day plan for Christchurch
- Release of the Educational Renewal Plan
- BOT By- Election
All very exciting so please support your very hard working Board while they deal with all these vital items.
Also needing support is Susie, who will be away on sick leave for a number of weeks from next Monday July 30. We wish her well. While Susie is away, Annie will be in HB3.
HB 5, 6 and 7 will be away every Tuesday this term at the YMCA Base.
Our New HB 8 has got off to a great start and more children are due to start in the next few weeks, so HB 8 will have around 14 children by the end of Term 3.
Our Weka Pass trip is planned for Wednesday September 19, details to follow.
A reminder that it would be great to have your feedback on Reports, Health Education and KOS by the end of this week please, so we can compile the necessary reports for the Board and improve our written reports.
Morning Tea for new families to D1:
Wednesday, 1 August at 10am in the Shared space. This is a great opportunity to get to know other families at D1. A chance to make new friends and share yummy treats. Hope to see you there.
Teacher Aide Vacancies:
Discovery 1 has two vacancies for Teacher Aides as follows:
- Position 1 New Entrant Teacher Aide to assist in HB1 and HB 8 on Monday and Friday afternoons and Tuesday mornings. Position commences on Monday August 6th.
- Position 2 Relieving Teacher Aide for a special needs student. This position is an “on call” position to relieve our current Teacher Aide should they be absent.
If interested in either position please apply to the Relieving Director stating experience and including your CV. Applications close on Tuesday July 31st.
We have noted some children arriving at D1 at 8.30 in the morning. Just a polite reminder that LA’s are on duty from 9am to 3.30pm and children should not be at school outside these hours unless arranged with their HB LA. Thank you for your co-operation.
Tony
